When I first got it the main UI for selecting anything was quite frankly unusable, it lagged, things where placed where they made the least sense for them to be, it was an eyesore, good luck doing multiplayer, just not what you want to be dealing with on a game.
Half the time I wanna boot it up it has to install something and it gets annoying quick. The first time installation, updates and further installation of addon content or mods, is very lengthy it needs to "incorporate" this content into the sim and while I don't know exactly what it's doing I do know it just takes too long. I don't think I've ever seen such a potentially great experience be held back by just the absolute worst presentation and menus you could have in a game.
I think AMS2 does have a few mods, but I'm quite content with the variety of the content in the base game already and having everything on the same level of quality is really appreciated, plus Reiza is constantly adding more and more content to the game in both free and paid DLCs so there's always something fresh to look forwards to.
This is the only sim I bother doing actual AI racing on because the bots will not ram you out of the car while trying to follow the racing line no matter what, they will race each other instead of forming into a tidy neat train waiting to get passed, they'll make mistakes, they have good pace (though I'm far from the best driver out there, so I imagine other people might find it easier) it's obviously never going to be as good as knowing there's a real person driving every car you see on your screen but it's still very enjoyable.Īnd finally, while mod support will always be a great addition to any game, it does undoubtedly come at the cost of different cars and tracks just not really being consistent across the hundreds of them available to download (often for free).
First, it has a lot of tracks and series from latin america which officially are never represented in any game outside of maybe Assetto mods (or AMS1), which helps distinguish it from any other option on the market and also spotlight how fun some of these lesser-known tracks can be.Īnother thing is that the AI is great. Public lobbies are what they are and unfortunately there's people that often forget they're not playing Burnout 3 but more often than not people seem to try and keep it clean, and there's quite a few player-performance metrics that are tracked by the game which helps with this issue a bit.ĪMS2 fits in a weird place for me where technically it should be completely redundant with everything else on the market already, but it does have some tricks up its sleeve. Online racing is also quite well done here I think, I don't think it's the best option for that in the market (more on that later) but it's the one I generally use the most. Of course, there's one very clear advantage to this - what is there is done really, really well and I think it might honestly be my favorite sim to drive on due to both the excellent physics and the fantastic audiovisual experience, which is often overlooked in other sims due to budget or putting all the focus in the physics. Quite obviously I've never driven an F1 car in real life but out of all of them I've tried in sims it is just on another level of detail.Ĭompetizione is more like the complete opposite of AC since the game is laser-focused on representing a very limited amount of classes, and they've also restricted themselves to only including tracks from the specific series they've included in the game which limits the potential variety further. To say something new, since then I bought the Formula Alpha 2022 from VRC, which is a paid mod for a fictional car based on the 2022 Formula 1 regulations, and it's absolutely amazing to drive. It's easily the best "sandbox" to play around in, the variety in both tracks and cars once you get into the modding scene is immense, etc. I've made a thread before on what makes Assetto Corsa amazing, and there's not much else I've got to add to that. Over the last year or so I got into sim racing big time with a proper wheel and everything, after a few years of playing GT Sport that made me realize just how enjoyable I'd found it, so here's a list of the sims I've tried out and what I think of them.
